Lizzy and Roel's  Overland trip 2006

Hi, and welcome to Lizzy and Roel's website. We left the UK on 2nd April 2006 to drive overland to Australia via Eastern Europe, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India and "container" to Coober Pedy, South Australia, the place where we met in the year 2000.  We then shipped our Land Rover to Cape Town and drove back to Europe through Africa, arriving back in the Netherlands on 24th December 2007.  This website tells our story...

March 2009

Last year was a busy year for us - we returned from our trip, sold the Landy, settled in the Netherlands, bought a house there and on 31st August 2008 our son Bart was born!

Our website's now fully up to date and we're probably not going to be having any more overland adventures soon, but do keep in touch because we still love to hear from everyone we met travelling, not to mention anyone who is currently or has been travelling or is planning a trip!

Happy travelling!

Us at Cape of Good Hope

The idea came in October 2004.

Roel writes: "When preparing for our visit to our friend Hans in Tanzania, I came to look on the website of other overland travellers. It immediately was the thing to do with my life! I told Elizabeth what a great idea I suddenly had and she was also up for it!

We met in 2000 in Coober Pedy!! This is a little mining town in the middle of Australia. Lizzy asked for a lift in the great Holden Commodore driven by me at that moment. It turned out we wanted to go the same way and our first adventure was born!"

We travelled through OZ by car and then to New Zealand and the USA by plane. We travelled together for about 4 months before Roel went back to Holland and Lizzy back to the UK. Roel stayed for about a year in Holland before joining Lizzy in the UK to make a future of our lives.

Roel, born 11/10/1975, and Lizzy, born 28/03/1974, have been living together since 2001.

We got married in Sligo, Ireland on 22nd May 2004 and are still very happy together. This trip will be our greatest adventure yet!
